Superheroes

Jon brought home this costume the other day for Moira. I'm not sure what kind of superhero it turns her into, but it sure made her smile.

It reminded me of another child dressed as a superhero--Superwoman, to be exact. When my sister and I were little we made wrist cuffs and a headband out of cardboard and covered them with foil. Using a marker we drew red stars on them. We found a towel for a cape, but we were short a victim. Then my brother Steve toddled by in his diaper-- perfect! My mom has pictures somewhere of Steve
as Superwoman, and I would love copies.

They might come on handy if I ever go into the costume business. I could put them in my portfolio.

Mom, if you're reading this and you know where those pictures are, scan them and send me copies. I will add them to this post as validation that everything I write on my blog is not bologna.;)

Endurance

We have been in the car going on nine hours now. The alphabet game has lost its fun, the scenery has lost its beauty and the smell is not so sweet. There should never be seven people in a vehicle with two dogs unless it's a bus in Mexico- and then there should also be a few loose chickens.

Christmas Eve in a car for a ten-hour car ride is not the best idea, but it could be worse. Okay, I can't really think of anything right now, but I know there are worse things.

Even the dog is bored.

Fa la la stinkin' la

What is wrong with people during the holidays? Even if you're not in the Christmas spirit you could still muster a thank you when a little girl holds the door open for you or the grocery checker offers you a candy cane. Everyone seems so grumpy, but then it also makes me wonder if everyone is just acting normal and I'm just overly jolly.

The Holidays or Christmas?

I celebrate Christmas. I can't say that I celebrate "the holidays" because I don't celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanza or any of the other religious holidays that come around every winter. I respect and appreciate those who do celebrate their own holidays though. I also think it is a wonderful idea to be inclusive when decorating for this time of year in a public setting- like a University office.

That said, I should not be scowled at, given dirty looks to, or receive under-the-breath comments because I choose to say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. Instead, if I say Merry Christmas and you actually celebrate Hanukkah, grow a pair and say so. To which I will happily revise my exclamatory to Happy Hanukkah.
