The Backward Life

“The road to hell is paved with works-in-progress.” —Philip Roth

Maggie: Tomorrow at school we get hamburgers.

Me: Yum.

Maggie: Not really. They give us kind of crappy burgers.

Me: What do you mean?

Maggie: They use ones made with lots of by-products like butt meat.

Day one of my own personal fit club did not go so well. I was doing great. I started my day with yoga and a light breakfast.  Even by lunchtime I was still going strong. I didn't drink a drop of soda all day, opting for herb tea and water instead.

It all went downhill when the kids came home and brought their Easter baskets out. I caved. I ate chocolate eggs and malted milk balls and other sugar-laden goodness.
I felt terrible all night long. I have no will-power. What is wrong with me. I need a pill that simulates the gross and yucky stomach feeling I get when I eat sugar. Then I could take it whenever I was tempted and I would not even want to look at it.

Whatever, today is a new day.
